Is music a physis or a techné?

For the last year or so, some physicists have been conducting experiments in manipulating the direction of sound waves for the purpose of improving performance hall acoustics.

Its an interesting corollary to the neurological experiments I’ve been reading about, many of which tend to treat music as something received by the brain rather than imagined in/created by the mind. As far as I can tell, there’s little or no mention in the literature about this strange divergence in the science of music, with physics treating sound as an active and actionable phenomena and neurology taking a passive orientation with respect to sound, dealing almost exclusively with its reception and observing the unwilled reactions in the brain (the causal relation being left, in the literature, murky at best).
